Audirvāna Remote

Audirvāna Remote is indeed receiving a major update for the Audirvāna Studio users following the global release of the new software.

The Remote has been updated for both iOS and Android:

iOS update is available here.

Android update is available here.

Users of the previous versions of the Audirvāna software can still use the Remote as it will detect the version of Audirvāna you have opened.

Audirvāna Remote is available here:
• App Store for iOS users with this link: https://apps.apple.com/app/a-remote/id1008281758
• Play Store for Android users with this link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.audirvana.aremote

iOS: Audirvāna Remote requires 11.4 or higher to run the application on your iPhone or iPad.

Android: Audirvāna Remoterequires Android 5 or later to run the application on your Android device.

– Make sure you have Audirvana version 2.2 or later open on your Mac, and in iTunes independent mode. iTunes must be closed.

If you are on Windows 10, make sure you have version 3.5 or higher open on your PC.

– Make sure that your Mac or PC and iPad/iPhone or Android device are connected to the same Wi-Fi (local network).

Be careful if you have a 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz connection possible, they are considered two separate networks by your Wi-Fi router.

For Windows 10 users, check your connection property: In Settings > Network & Internet > Check connection properties, make sure your Network profile is set to Private.

– Check the firewall settings :

– For Mac: In System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Firewall > Firewall Options > Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections check that this setting is selected and “Block all incoming connections” is not selected.

– For PC: In Settings > Update and Security > Windows Security > Firewall and Network Protection > Allow an application via a firewall, make sure that the file audirvanaplus.exe is allowed to access the network.

– Restart your Wi-Fi router because it may have a problem transmitting the connection used by Audirvana Remote (Like the Apple Remote app that controls iTunes, which can be blocked for the same reasons)

In the playback view, press play/pause.
A “Stop” button is displayed, press it to stop Audirvana playback completely.
This will restore access to the audio device to other applications and allow your computer to go into standby mode

Technical Issues

Audirvāna Studio takes exclusive access to the audio device (i.e. your DAC) during playback to be able to implement its sound signal optimizations.

Thus no other application (such as Chrome, Firefox, etc…) can send sound to the audio device used by Audirvāna Studio until it is in Stop mode.

If another application still tries to send sound during playback, macOS will try to find another available audio device for it.

When playback stops, Audirvāna Studio restores access to the audio device, and any other application can then use it.

Audirvāna Studio can stream to an Airplay compatible device.

If you have a Mac of a mid-2011 model or newer, you can simply select “Airplay” as an audio device in the Audirvāna Studio preferences on the Audio System page.

Otherwise you can use a third party software like AirFoil for doing that.

In addition, if iTunes is still running when using Audirvāna Studio, you must ensure that Airplay is disabled in iTunes and in the system preferences.

Note: The Airplay device can be hidden. To get it back, hold down Option and click on the loudspeaker icon on the menu bar. Select Airplay in the selection menu that appears.

The main reason for this is memory swapping to disk, namely the audio buffer currently playing.

This is due to insufficient memory available for storing the audio buffers.

To prevent this from happening, exit other memory-hungry applications (e.g. Safari), and/or reduce the maximum audio buffers size (Audio settings > Device capabilities)

This is probably due to setting you put for upsampling. If you put “Device maximum frequency” then you’re pushing your DAC a little bit too much. You then need to consider putting this setting to “x2”, “Power of 2” or deactivate it.

To reference files on a NAS in the Audirvāna Studio library, simply add the one or a few NAS directories that contain your music to the list to synchronize, in the Library section of the settings. To do this, your NAS must be configured in “standard” sharing mode, i.e. file sharing (you can see these in the Finder or your File Explorer).

It is quite possible these audio files do not have the metadata tags that would have enabled them to be correctly catalogued and found easily. The title, the artist’s name, the album title… must be missing.

In this case, they appear with only a title that is their filename. You can display the “File Location” column and sort by it to find them more easily.

In album view, files without metadata are grouped by folder, which are then displayed as albums. You will then have the possibility to save their album name directly by clicking on “Convert to album” in the details panel (displayed by the command in the Presentation menu).

In this details panel you can also add missing metadata.

You probably have a pre-2008 Mac. Older Macs have a limitation in their USB port power supplies, causing a few samples to be set to 0 every ~16,000, and only in Integer Mode.

The audible results are clicks.

To continue getting the benefits of the Integer Mode, try this widely used workaround: Connect a powered USB hub between the DAC and the Mac (with only the DAC connected to the computer).

First make sure that your Mac and your network drive are connected to the same local network, with no router in between.

Then check that no other UPnP applications are running on your Mac when you launch Audirvāna Studio. Only one application at a time can open the SSDP port (UDP 1900) at a time to detect UPnP devices.

Audirvāna Studio takes exclusive access to the audio device (usually your DAC) to be able to apply its advanced optimizations during playback. Windows or MacOS then tries to find another available audio device.
When playback stops, Audirvāna Studio restores access to the audio device, and any other application can then use it.

For MacOS:

Since the 1.5 release, Audirvāna Studio supports Audio Unit filter plugins. This can be configured in the audio Signal Processing section on the audio preferences page.

This gives access to the large number of EQ, room correction, headphone crossover filters available on the market including the one that are already in your Mac.

For Windows 10:

You can install and use VST3 plugins inside Audirvāna Studio

Note that you can’t use the Realtime mode for Audio Unit and VST3 in Audirvana with a UPnP connectivity to your DAC.

Audirvāna Studio automatically import your favorites and playlists from the 3.5 version when you first start Audirvana Studio.

If you have missing playlists, you can export it from Audirvāna 3.5 and import them in Audirvāna Studio using the Playlist manager
